After all these years, I am familier with the specific catch in my throat just before I set something that matters to me down in the public domain of the internet.
Here I am again.
This is not new material. I have a narrative through-line and a modest archive of enquiry and commentary on death and dying. I write about everything through an intimate lens. It’s how I roll.
A few weeks ago Advantages of Age published the essay that sits alongside this film.
If you’d like to read it you can find it HERE.
My very dear friend Andrew, well, he makes poetry with film.
This is his beautiful work, because the actual reality of two humans and a camera in a room felt like a car crash. It was hard. Harder than either had imagianed. I thought it would be simple, and then discovered that holding an idea of a simple thing gets in the way of being in the moment. I was trying too hard. We stopped and started. My front doorbell rang. It did not feel like we found the film.
Andrew found the film.
The trying too hard got cut away.
This is what remains.
