ARC I - THE SELF
There was a period in my life when I became deeply aware of internal narrative.
I started noticing how we rehearse realities internally before we ever play them out.
This painting is called BLANK PAGE.
“BLANK PAGE” - Acrylic and Rust on Panel by RODNEY WHITE
It’s centered around an illustration of the Sears Tower in Chicago because Sofia is from Chicago (The name changed to The Willis Tower around the time I painted it). Even the colors are Cubs colors.
What’s wild is…
I painted this long before we were married. Long before we were even close to becoming what we eventually became.
But it’s the line that unlocked the piece for me:
“Make up your own true story.”
At that point in my life, I really believed I had authorship. That I had the pen.
That my life wasn’t something happening to me, but something I was actively writing in my journals.
And there was one thing I was determined to write into existence.
Sofia…
We’ve been married since 2011 - Together since 2006
I knew early. (I remember the day I realized it too because it was the same day that I learned there was a 6 1/2 Avenue in Manhattan)
I knew…
Before the timing made sense.
Before it even made sense to me.
Before she felt it the same way.
Before there was proof.
But internally, something had already settled in me.
Not forcefully. Not obsessively. Not in a way that needed to manipulate reality.
Just clear about what belonged on my pages.
And because I believed that internally, I moved differently externally.
More patiently.
More intentionally.
I moved carefully with my words, especially the ones I repeated internally.
Because I understood, even then, that the stories people continuously tell themselves
eventually stop sounding like stories.
They start sounding like truth.
And once the mind accepts something as true, behavior begins organizing itself around it.
Years later, I would eventually articulate this realization more structurally inside LAW OF 39: Lesson 26 - NARRATIVE ALIGNMENT.
But this painting was one of the earliest signs that I was already circling that idea.
That lesson ultimately became about the relationship between internal narrative and external behavior.
About how we rehearse realities internally before we ever play them out.
And how repetition, over time, begins shaping posture, identity, and direction.
If BLANK PAGE was the intuition…
NARRATIVE ALIGNMENT became the articulation.
“BLANK PAGE” isn’t about control.
It’s about trusting what you know internally and staying aligned with it long enough
for reality to eventually catch up.
As always… in divine time.
