If I were to sum up 2024, it would be sensing fear and doing it anyway. Last year, I gave birth to a book I nurtured in various ways for nearly a decade. I doubted myself every minute leading up to its release. There were far too many “What am I doing?” moments and endless streams of self-doubt. I was not fun to live with.
I was scared.
But I did it anyway, and I’m so glad I did.
With the New Year here, I encourage you to write down your fears. What is something that scares you? What is that one thing you want to do, but there are a million doubts in your mind?
Often, the things we fear are precisely what we need to face.
My recent podcast with Kevin Grange, Can We Live In Harmony with Bears, is about our delicate dance with nature and the things we fear. Kevin’s book, Grizzly Confidential, is a fascinating arch, from Kevin’s fear of grizzlies to his detailed exploration of their existence and how we can co-exist with them.
As we head into 2025, I’m sharing a tool I’ve used for years: Gretchen Rubin’s New Year List, which allows you to set goals you want to achieve. I don’t love resolutions. We don’t need to resolve things in our lives; we need to evolve.
How do you want to evolve?
Start by writing down your fears.
If you’re feeling brave, put your fears in the comments section.
My biggest apprehension heading into the New Year is harmonizing self-care with achieving the goals I’ve set for myself. The dreaded word “balance” comes to mind, but my true hope is to achieve success while carving out time for myself to replenish.
Thanks for being a part of my community. I’m so excited about what 2025 brings! Fears and all.
XO Jen
