Last summer I wrote three mega posts covering everything I thought at the time producers needed to know, and posted one a week so that I could go offline for a holiday (well, when you say offline, a more honest position would be less online than usual).
This year, I’ve decided to do a refresh to those three, and have condensed them into two posts. The first is what are the big ongoing strategic issues for you to bake into your thinking, and the second are all sorts of mindsets and approaches you could consider in response to these market conditions. Going through this process, it has been interesting to see how some things that felt really important last year now seem less so, while others continue to have strategic importance.
My logic is I’ve been writing this Substack weekly for (nearly) two years now, and I’m keenly aware a) I cover so much ground b) there is such a vast volume of information out there that c) it might be tricky to identify which are the most important factors to keep in mind.
So the purpose of these two posts is almost to condense everything down to a crib sheet - sort of ‘if you don’t read anything else, then read this’. And when I say crib sheet, I have to fess up that each one is 6,000 words long…
Last bit of housekeeping. How to manage holidays and downtime is a regular theme amongst Substackers who are single operators like me. My challenge in planning for summer was how to ensure I’m delivering what paid subscribers are expecting, while also giving myself a break to recharge with my family.
As a result, these two posts are for paying subscribers (to whom I'm very grateful). Meanwhile, I'll pause my free Friday posts until the last week of August.
So if you want these summaries of what you need to know, then please do take out a paid subscription - go on, you can expense it, and it will help keep me in ouzo spritzes in Greece for the next two weeks.
