I can’t believe Fauci did all that.

The man in these messages was furious when he believed Fauci had said these things. He called him a liar, a monster, possibly the most evil man on the planet, and said he deserved the death penalty. Then he learned the words belonged to Trump.

I doubt that changed anything. The people who still mock Fauci and defend Trump have already survived every fact that should have broken the spell.

For many of them, the truth only becomes real when the virus walks into their own house and puts a name on one of those numbers.

Like Tony Green, a Republican and Trump supporter who believed COVID was a Democratic “hoax” and a “scamdemic.” A family gathering left fourteen of his relatives infected. He and his father-in-law were hospitalized. An older relative died. His father-in-law ended up on a ventilator. Only after the virus tore through his own family did he admit the pandemic was real.

Christy Carpenter and her 28-year-old son Curt also believed it was a hoax. Curt changed his mind from the ICU. Then he died. His mother later said it took watching her son die, and getting sick herself, before she understood they needed the vaccine.

They will keep laughing until the suffering belongs to someone they love.

Or until they can pin the words on someone they already hate.

The chat was testing the second option. The body count eventually forces the first. Neither one has much to do with what was actually said.

I still felt Brooke America should try.

I need your help.
