Hello again! I hope you’re having a lovely week. In today’s email:

  • Current workout routine

  • Snacks

  • In the queue

Let’s dive in 👇🏼

After repeated injuries, I stepped back from BJJ and started training Muay Thai.

What I think I look like at Muay Thai class

It’s much gentler on your body, especially if you don’t spar often.

Depending on what gym you go to, it can be an intense conditioning workout.

But you’re also learning some cool martial arts as a byproduct.

I love the steep part of the learning curve, so this has been a lot of fun so far.

These days, lifting is lower weight, higher volume, always full body.

So my routine is:

  • Monday - lifting

  • Tuesday - Muay Thai & conditioning

  • Wednesday - rest

  • Thursday - Muay Thai & conditioning

  • Friday - lifting

  • Saturday - Muay Thai (if I can make it)

  • Sunday - rest

It seems like a lot, but here’s what makes it work, at least for me:

I find it difficult to push myself really hard outside of a group setting.

Like, running alone? I’m gonna phone it on.

But a grappling or striking class? I’ll go hard because everyone else is, and the teacher expects it (and it’s fun).

For me, group training is the only way to get a really intense cardio workout done on a regular basis.

I know many people love the intensity of heavy compound movements. They love the thrill of a new barbell squat one rep max.

I’ve tried that. It’s not for me. I didn’t look forward to the workouts, and I didn’t enjoy sitting around for 4-5 minutes between sets.

(Actually, I made a whole video about why I stopped doing this kind of lifting.)

So, my current routine consists of 30-45 minute workouts, max (sometimes shorter).

I do circuits — supersets of 2-3 movements — so there’s almost no downtime.

Mostly machines, so I’m not spending time loading plates onto a bar.

All high volume sets. My only goal is to leave the gym with a nice full body pump.

And I also work on small and neglected muscles (think tibialis raises, IYTWs, back extensions)

I was running short on time yesterday, so I only had 20 minutes at the gym. I did a few sets of dumbbell presses, some dead hangs and back extensions.

Was it a great workout? No. But I checked the box.

Something is better than nothing, and consistency beats intensity every time.

I’m not saying this is the best program. I’m certainly not the strongest or most jacked guy in any room.

But I’m enjoying this routine. I look forward to kickboxing. I don’t dread going to the gym. It doesn’t feel like a chore.

Finding a workout routine you actually want to do for a long time is way more important than finding the “perfect” routine.

Here are some things I’m enjoying lately:

Harney & Sons Cinnamon Tea - I stopped drinking coffee a few months ago, so I’ve been spamming tea. This stuff is my favorite.

Naked Oats - This is an overnight oats blend with whey protein already mixed in (20g per serving. Low effort, high protein breakfast for less than $3 per serving.

Costco Egg Bites - Better than I thought they’d be, but you gotta make them in the toaster oven. Patience pays off here! Comes out to about $1 per bite.

Everything Seasoning - Make every bagel an everything bagel

Maui Nui Venison Sticks - The Mercedes S Class of meat sticks (a tangible upgrade from Chomps).

Gritzy Ready Grits - A friend of mine just launched this brand. Looks like a good alternative to rice when you want to treat yo self.

Got any favorite healthy-ish snacks? Let me know...

Just say you don’t know. Don’t be a phony.

I have 3 videos in the queue right now:

  1. Interior design mistakes guys tend to make (this is a fun one…it’s almost ready)

  2. How to choose the perfect glasses for your face

  3. Luxury watches for small wrists (part 2 of this series)

These will all be out within the next few weeks, so keep an eye on the channel.

Here are my most recent videos:

Got any video ideas for me? Hit ‘reply’ and share them!

Until next time,
