Hi friends,
When we think about groundbreaking experiences, it’s the headline-grabbing projects that first come to mind.
Sphere. Moment Factory. Immersive Van Gogh.
But that’s only part of the story.
Some of the industry’s most innovative thinking is happening on a much smaller scale.
In pop-ups.
They’re temporary by nature, which gives brands permission to experiment. To combine ideas that wouldn’t normally belong together. To try something unexpected without betting the farm.
Today’s best pop-ups aren’t just handing out samples or promoting products. They’re blending hospitality, entertainment, retail, technology, wellness, sports, and culture into experiences that defy easy labels. They’re becoming testing grounds for entirely new ways of engaging audiences.
In this week’s issue, I’ve gathered a few of my favorites. From World Cup pop-ups spanning the globe, to Cannes Lions showcasing some of today’s most inventive activations, to retailers rethinking what a store can be, and brands using personalization to create lines around the block.
Individually, they’re inspiring.
Collectively, they show that some of the biggest ideas in experiential are happening in the smallest footprints.

How can you take your next pop-up to the next level?
Grab a time on my calendar and let’s talk strategy.
The best pop-up activations are built on one idea: Being temporary is a superpower. Limited time creates anticipation, drives urgency, and gives brands permission to surprise people in unexpected ways. Here’s a look at how Bridgewater approaches them, turning those brief moments into experiences that stick with audiences long after.
Turns out folks will happily shop in person for something they can’t order online. Marine Layer and Abbode are proving that customization, from patches to embroidery, transforms shopping into an experience Gen Z wants. Sometimes the product isn’t what draws the crowd. It’s the chance to make it your own.
Pop-ups may be temporary, but the thinking behind them isn’t. RH’s new London flagship borrows the same playbook, blending retail, hospitality, dining, and architecture into a destination people visit as much for the experience as the furniture. It’s another sign that the boundaries between industries are disappearing.
If you want to see where experiential is headed, spend a week walking Cannes instead of sitting in the conference sessions. Brands transformed beaches, villas, hotels, and cafés into immersive environments where hospitality, storytelling, AI, and live experiences collided. It’s one of the best annual snapshots of what’s possible when marketers are free to experiment.
Cannes may be where the industry gathers, but the World Cup is where its biggest ideas meet the world. Across host cities, brands are testing new ways to blend sports, culture, hospitality, entertainment, and technology into experiences designed for audiences that span continents. It’s experiential thinking on a truly global stage.
The ultimate proof that temporary doesn't mean forgettable. The Severance Season 2 premiere may be old news, but people are still talking about this Grand Central activation that melted down the internet as both hardcore fans and curious passersby shared this wildly unexpected and authentic moment. Hats off to Kamp Grizzly, OMD, and Apple for pulling it off.
