I didn’t get up to much, and stayed in all day. It was a Sunday, after all.
Easy Peelers
I had a look at the comments here on my Substack/blog/diary. In a previous post, I mentioned something about me eating tangerines after my lunch, and somebody commented that I reminded them of a grandparent they had (I think), who also liked to eat tangerines all the time (I think).
Before I replied, I wanted to double check that it really was tangerines I had, and not some other tangeriney fruit. I had a look at the packaging, and it said “Easy Peelers”. And that’s all. It said stuff about the country of origin and the weight and that, but nothing more about what the fruit actually was.
Strange.
It reminded me of the urban myth of why Kentucky Fried Chicken changed their name to KFC.
The myth is that KFC use genetically modified chickens, modified to the extent that they can no longer be classed as chickens. I mean mutant chickens, like with no brains or faces. Just bodies. And some trading standards lot told Kentucky Fried Chicken to take the name “chicken” out of their name. So it was changed to KFC.
Could Easy Peelers be the same?
I looked it up, and various sources said that “Easy Peelers” is a marketing term for mandarins.
Then why not just say that on the label?
It makes you wonder.
I suppose it doesn’t matter what they are, at the end of the day. The main thing is they’re easy to peel.
Magnolia
We finished watching the film Magnolia. I thought it was alright. I’ll give it 3/5. I liked that it was different, I liked that it was trying to say something, I really liked the acting. But I wasn’t really satisfied. I liked The Master, though. I feel compelled to apologise for not liking yet another Paul Thomas Anderson film (as well as One Battle After Another), so I’ll say I like The Master, though. There, that’s twice I’ve said it.
Telly Return’s Eve
I planned to return my new faulty telly the next day. I messaged the shop’s Returns service via WhatsApp, as per their advice on their site. But they had finished for the day, so I’d have to wait until the morning for the conversation to get started.
I wondered how things would go. I rehearsed arguments. I hoped it would all go well.
