Ukraine’s middle-strike campaign continues to disrupt Russian operations across occupied territory, with Ukrainian drones steadily degrading logistics routes extending into Kherson Oblast. Ukraine has also expanded its target set beyond logistical vehicles to include energy infrastructure in both occupied Kherson Oblast and Crimea, as well as more specialized assets such as tugboats.
However, Russia isn’t lying flat. In response to Ukrainian middle strikes on bridges — covered in a previous edition of Kherson Weekly — Russian forces have deployed pontoon bridges and constructed earthen bypasses in an effort to restore their ground lines of communication with Crimea. The satellite imagery company Vantor has published aerial imagery documenting both the damage inflicted by Ukrainian strikes and Russia’s subsequent efforts to adapt.
In Stavky, Kherson Oblast, a hastily constructed roadway has been built across the North Crimean Canal, restoring the logistics route after the bridge was severely damaged and rendered inoperable by Ukrainian UAV strikes last month.
Photo: Yigal Levin
In Henichensk, Ukrainian drone strikes severely damaged the deck of the Henichensk Bridge, forcing Russian occupation authorities and the military to deploy a pontoon bridge and reroute traffic west of the crossing. The bridge appears to have sustained sufficient damage to render it impassable to vehicle traffic.
Photo: Yigal Levin
At the Chonhar Bridge, Russian forces have deployed a pontoon bridge between the damaged main bridge to the north and the older bridge to the south. Traffic can be observed crossing the damaged main bridge via a single open lane along its northern side, while the damaged sections have been sealed off with barriers. The older bridge to the south also appears to be inoperable and structurally unsound, with barriers blocking its eastern approach.

Ukrainian forces began to expand their targeting to new categories, including tugboats, gas compressor stations, while continuing to strike logistics vehicles at key chokepoints such as Chaplynka and Armyansk.

Ukrainian forces have also continued to exploit the road junction at Chaplynka, which has become a critical node in Russian logistics in southern Kherson Oblast. As discussed previously, occupation governor Vladimir Saldo rerouted traffic onto two alternative routes, both of which converge at Chaplynka before continuing toward Crimea.

HUR targeted at least 11 Russian logistics vehicles along the E105 highway in southern Kherson Oblast, striking vehicles near both the Zaporizhzhia–Kherson and the Kherson–Crimea borders. Several vehicles shown in the footage appear to have been struck previously, with multiple trucks displaying torn soft tops and damaged tarpaulins.
Video: HUR: Risk Department
The drone used in these strikes was the RAM-2X — a Ukrainian X-wing strike drone that operates in tandem with Shark reconnaissance UAVs. RAM-2X is capable of strikes beyond 150 kilometers, proving itself to be a dangerous threat to the most vital roadways leading to the Crimean Peninsula. The drone can be identified in footage by its signature red square reticle and its markedly clear video resolution.
Ukraine Daily Update’s geolocation team successfully geolocated five of the strikes shown in the compilation.
At approximately 0:04 and 0:08, RAM-2X UAVs struck two Russian KamAZ trucks as they crossed the pontoon bridge that Russian forces had constructed to restore the logistics route formerly carried by the Chonhar Bridge. The aftermath of these strikes can be seen near 0:49.

The P47 is a critical logistics corridor for Russian forces in occupied Kherson Oblast. It links the E105 to the broader occupied road network and terminates in occupied Kakhovka. The highway also forms part of the alternative routes announced by occupation governor Vladimir Saldo following restrictions on traffic across the Chonhar corridor, directing vehicles from the E105 through Novooleksiivka and Novotroitske before eventually converging at the critical chokepoint of Chaplynka.
A rather important strike was shown at 0:25, as a RAM-2X evades the fire of a Russian “M.O.G.” (мобильная огневая группа) or Mobile Fire Group. Russian began hastily deploying mobile fire groups along the highways and throughout the convoys travelling through the occupied territories to intercept Ukrainian UAVs. However, these have proven mostly ineffective, as scale and space remain two major problems.
Russia does not yet have enough of these groups to saturate the skies with short range air defense assets and they aren’t deployed across a wide enough area to protect every logistical route. As seen in this instance, the mobile fire group struggles to get a proper lead on the Ukrainian UAV and cannot compensate for the speed of the RAM-2X closing in on their position, missing every shot as they engage with a heavy machine gun mounted on the back of a light pickup truck. Concerned about being targeted by the UAV themselves, the mobile fire team actually abandons their positions and takes cover in the nearby tree line, while the Ukrainian drone smacks the KamAZ truck that the group was tasked with protecting.
Further to the east, in Chervone, Zaporizhzhia Oblast, another RAM-2X hit a Russian KamAZ truck heading eastbound on the E105 highway at 0:41.

Ukrainian operations also continued in the far southwestern reaches of occupied Kherson Oblast, with Ukraine planting a flag on the Kinburn Peninsula and conducting strikes on the Yahorlyk Kut Peninsula, located to the south of Kinburn.
Video: Regional Directorate of the Territorial Defense Forces “South” of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
Footage of a Ukrainian flag being planted by drone on a building in the settlement of Pokrovske, on the western edge of the Kinburn Peninsula, generated considerable excitement across less discerning segments of the pro-Ukrainian information space. Many interpreted the footage as confirmation of a Ukrainian military presence or control over part of the peninsula, while others cited it as further evidence supporting ATESH’s claims that Russian forces had withdrawn from the area because of the logistical strain imposed by Ukraine’s middle-strike campaign.
However, it must be made clear that drone-dropped flags are tools of public relations and propaganda in this war, with both Ukraine and Russia using videos of flags in certain locations to shape narratives and even influence maps. There remains no definitive evidence of Russian withdrawal from the Kinburn Peninsula and no definitive evidence of Ukrainian control on the Peninsula.

Much more importantly however, Ukrainian deployment of HIMARS in the Kherson Direction was confirmed via this same footage. At about 0:25, three GMLRS rockets struck the Yahorlyk Kut Peninsula, seemingly destroying at least three Russian positions. This may mark a significant change in the area of operations, as footage of GMLRS strikes in occupied Kherson is incredibly rare. In two years of tracking, this is the first footage I’ve personally seen.
HIMARS systems should help Ukrainian forces in the Kherson Direction to further degrade important nodes in Russia’s rear. Recall that HIMARS were a vital asset to strike and disrupt the Russian rear, especially in 2023. Now, HIMARS can complement Ukraine’s middle-strike UAVs in that it can be reserved for harder and higher-value targets, while UAVs focus on more numerous, softer, and lower-value targets. Middle-strike UAVs – depending on the model — are not ideal for striking hardened structures, as their warheads are more ideal for strikes on vehicles. Even the largest of Ukraine’s middle-strike UAVs, such as the FP-2, still struggles with demolishing bridges and buildings. Looking forward, HIMARS may prove itself vital in plugging this gap in capability.

The 426th Unmanned Systems Regiment continued its months-long middle-strike campaign across southern Kherson Oblast by targeting Russian logistics at the critical chokepoints of Chaplynka and Kalanchak. The most significant aspect of these strikes is that they were carried out using fiber-optic FPV drones rather than middle-strike fixed-wing UAVs such as the Hornet or RAM-2X.
As discussed in our previous middle-strike assessment, Ukraine’s campaign against Russian logistics has created critical chokepoints at Kalanchak and Chaplynka. This has concentrated Russian logistics traffic into a kill zone that can be threatened not only by middle-strike UAVs operating at operational depth, but also by tactical strike systems such as fiber-optic FPV drones.
This approach potentially allows Ukraine’s middle-strike units to concentrate on targets deeper in the Russian rear while the 426th Regiment’s tactical strike assets assume responsibility for engaging logistics closer to the front.
Video: 426th Unmanned Systems Regiment
At 0:13, a fiber-optic FPV drone destroyed a Russian KamAZ truck after its crew hastily abandoned the vehicle while attempting to cross the canal bridge at Kalanchak. The bridge itself remains largely intact, as there have been no documented strikes against the structure. This suggests that Ukraine may have deliberately left the crossing intact in order to funnel Russian logistics through a predictable route, creating a target-rich environment for Ukrainian UAV teams.

Occupation Governor Vladimir Saldo shared photographs of the aftermath of Ukrainian FP-2 UAV strikes on a bus depot in the southern coastal city of Skadovsk. The strike likely denied Russian forces access to public buses that could be used to transport personnel to and from assembly areas while further disrupting civilian transportation and daily life in occupied territory. Many public transportation routes have already been suspended because of worsening fuel shortages and the growing threat posed by Ukrainian drone strikes.
As a second order effect, the strike appears intended to incrementally increase pressure on both the civilian administration and the Russian military occupation by disrupting essential services and logistics. Over time, such attacks may increase the costs of occupation, potentially compelling Russian authorities either to commit additional resources to maintaining control or to face growing public dissatisfaction over their inability to provide security and basic services.

The vital port city of Skadovsk was struck again the following day, when an unidentified UAV operated by the 20th Unmanned Systems Brigade hit another Project 498 Saturn-class tugboat in the port area at 4:28. Combined with the previous strike on a tugboat at the same port, this attack appears intended to disrupt Russian maritime logistics by removing critical port-support assets.
Tugboats are essential to port operations, assisting larger and less maneuverable vessels with berthing, repositioning, and transiting confined waterways. As tugboats are removed from service, the Port of Skadovsk becomes increasingly constrained in both the number and types of vessels it can efficiently accommodate.
A further effect is the potential diversion of Russian commercial and naval traffic to ports farther from the Kherson direction. This lengthens maritime logistics routes, increases transportation costs and transit times, and complicates commercial activities such as the export of grain from occupied Ukraine.

Robert Brovdi released a video compilation consisting exclusively of Ukrainian UAV strikes against energy infrastructure across occupied Kherson Oblast and Crimea. Magyar reported that at least 16 energy infrastructure facilities had been struck over a 48-hour period. For brevity, this section focuses only on strikes in southern Kherson Oblast. Strikes against energy infrastructure are not new, particularly in occupied Crimea; however, publicly released footage of such strikes in Kherson represents a newer development.
This represents a logical evolution of the middle-strike campaign, as attacks on energy infrastructure target the foundation of both civilian life and military operations. Power disruptions place additional pressure on the occupation authorities while also degrading the reliability of Russian military communications, command infrastructure, and battery-dependent systems.
