Recently a French teenager went viral after waking from a three-week medically induced coma and reporting on a stretch of seven years lived in what some might term an alternate reality.
19-year-old French woman named Clélia Verdier went into her coma in June 2025 after a suicide attempt and remained unconscious for three weeks. Inside that time, she lived seven years—married, became a mother of triplets, lost one daughter at birth, watched the other two develop personalities, read them bedtime stories, and built numerous memories together.

When she woke from the coma, her first question was about her children. Instead, the doctors shattered the reality she had been living in: her children had never existed. It was all an illusion.
The mainstream response to cases like this is predictable: confabulation, REM intrusion, the brain filling gaps. What that framing can’t account for is the texture of what Verdier describes—the pain of labour, the specific shyness of one child, the specific energy of another, grief at a death that didn’t happen. This wasn’t a blur. It was a richly detailed life with stability, continuity, and relational depth.
In Verdier’s perception it lasted seven years. The loss of that other life was absolutely devastating for her. Her case does not exist in isolation either. These events demand explanation—or at least some serious thought.
In contrast to mainstream dogma, my Consciousness Transition Model (CTM) treats consciousness as substrate-independent—not generated by the brain but interfacing with it. When that interface is disrupted, as it is in coma, what becomes possible is an open question. Verdier’s case is one data point among many that suggests the answer is: considerably more than the standard model allows.
I have a small personal reference point here. In 2020, having a blood sample taken, I lost consciousness briefly—and what happened in that window was not nothing. Aimee watched my eyes roll back. What I experienced on the other side of that is part of what’s in the full post.
The full piece—including what the CTM framework actually predicts about these states, and what I encountered in 2020—is at the link below.

About Brendan & His Other Offers
Brendan is architect of the Consciousness Transition Model (CTM), an emerging framework that integrates NDEs, OBEs, and centuries of altered state observational data into a coherent map of post-mortem reality. Brendan researches consciousness and the origins of modern metaphysical narratives.
His work synthesises contemporary data with classical esoteric frameworks, most notably in Reverse Engineering the Afterlife—Book 2 of The Grand Illusion series—a landmark study into the afterlife system and rules of non-physical perception and state changes.
