Ok as somebody who literally only just figured out how to KIND OF DO THEIR HAIR, I felt this was a necessary topic for us to get into.
For me, hair was just an afterthought or an annoyance. If it was clean (I HATE DIRTY HAIR) and brushed I was basically fine. Granted, I was getting it styled everyday (with LOTS of extensions) by the professionals at E! (RIP) but like that was as far as it went. If I was on my own, the front was getting a light blow-dry and the back had to fend for itself.
Roxy and I always used to say (she’s on the pod tomorrow so this feels relevant, I’m writing this on Tuesday night btw), “if you have good hair, you can get away with anything,” and frankly it’s the whole truth and nothing but the truth. People notice your hair before they notice your face a lot of the time. If you’re having an ugly day, do your hair and your overall state of being will significantly increase.
Hair care and styling your hair well really seem to be THE THING these days. It feels like every single girl on the internet is doing most of their videos with hot rollers in and I LIVE. A fun fact: my mother-in-law gave me a set of hot rollers when Jordan and I first dated and not only did I use them alllll the time, I saved them and still have them in my bathroom right now.
Contrary to popular belief, I’m a no fuss kind of person as we know. I have zero time for overcomplicated people, products, or things. Haircare is no different, and this has historically been the case. It’s why I wanted to give you guys a VERY TO THE POINT haircare guide, filled with the products and tools that I swear by. All I need is freshly washed hair and literally everything in this list and I’m really set.
From left to right: Shu Uemura Repair Shampoo + Conditioner; Crown Affair Volume Shampoo + Conditioner; Christopher Robins Volume Shampoo.
When it comes to shampoo and conditioner, I’m sort of rotating things depending on my mood. I love the Shu Uemura shampoo + conditioner when I’m using tons of heat on my hair (which is like a lot) or when my hair is feeling particularly damaged. Or, if I’m wanting a bit more bounce and hold in my hair, I’ll go for the Christopher Robins volume shampoo or the Crown Affair shampoo + conditioner.
From left to right: Iles Finishing Serum; Unite Detangler; K18 Hair Mask.
If I’m not reaching for K18 (see below), I’m using this serum that is INSANELY GOOD for frizz about 2-3 times per week. My hair naturally has tons of curly pieces underneath and then straight on top with a good amount of frizz. This gets shit under control.
A good leave-in conditioner is something everyone should have in their bathroom. I love this Unite one because I can count on it to smooth and detangle my hair that gets colored every 8 weeks LOL. We’re not gonna talk about how much healthier my hair was when I went brunette for 5 seconds. Either way, I was still using this product after each wash. Also this smell takes me back to mornings at E! and it really makes me feel something.
Coloring my hair every 8 weeks remember???? I use this hair mask in place of conditioner 2x a week and treat it like a leave-in conditioner. I’ll style my hair and everything with this in it.
From left to right: Rene Furterer Dry Shampoo; Chris McMillan Flyaway Wand; Crown Affair Dry Shampoo; L’Oreal Hairspray.
In case I did’t make it clear enough, I fucking HATE having dirty hair. I need to wash my hair every other day, but if I absolutely must use dry shampoo, Crown Affair or Furterer are the ones I reach for and they’re both incredible.
An incredible purchase. This thing (which looks like a mascara wand… genius????) really locks down any flyaways without making your hair look greasy. So good and the best for keeping in your purse for touchups throughout the day. I forgot it when I was doing my press in NYC for the show and I was fucking pissed. My fly aways are soo insane in the press videos.
You really can’t compete with a basic, old school hairspray. Plus, the tiny bottle really makes me happy. I can't explain it.
From left to right: Bur Bur Brush; Crown Affair Towel; Dyson Air Wrap; Mane Hot Brush.
Having a good brush is essential, I’m sorry. I also love that it comes in a mini that I can keep in my bag. This brush is newer to me and I LOVE.
We already know I use this to put my hair up after I wash it while I’m STILL in the shower. But I need to emphasize how necessary of an inclusion this towel is considering I literally travel with one.
Hear me when I say this, the Dyson Air Wrap (with ALL of the attachments) is the single best investment you will ever make. I am NOT exaggerating. This is the best invention since Instagram.
When I tell you I was SO SO bad at styling my hair before this thing came around. Now, I will literally opt out of going to get my hair done by professionals because I know WITH CONFIDENCE I can do it myself thanks to this tool.
Also such a good investment and really helps you get that swoopy blowout that all of the hot girls have. Literally does the work for you.
FUN!!! Back soon!!!
Byeeeee,
Morgan
