Henry Alcock-White · The Big Picture

I went to WebSummit in Vancouver last week. If you have ever been to a WebSummit (they happen all over the world) you’ll know it’s a very broad, anything-tech-goes type of conference. Here are my takes:

  • AI is a given. If you’re a startup leading with some form of “powered by AI” you’re doing yourself a major disservice at this point.

  • Current trend in brand messaging: “artificial intelligence” in place of “AI”. Partly to combat the above. Probably about to become very common.

  • I have two small kids. If you’ve got some decent swag I’m 10x more likely to approach your booth.

  • Spoke with a few folks with paid booths, interesting to hear they were seeing pretty good ROI (even with some less than stellar booths, sorry not sorry).

  • On that note: we’ve helped a lot of clients elevate their presence at these kinds of events. Please reach out if you’re thinking about attending something.

Last week we revamped Bolster’s services page. A clearer definition of what we do and the outcomes. But we’ve also gotten really clear on how we begin our work. The foundation we build from. We’re calling them programs but essentially these are two processes we have run many times. Omakase, the one we’re known for. And Futura for when you need to go deeper.

I would love to hear any thoughts on feedback on this page, these packages, and how this information is presented.

Schedio is an interior design and build firm that needed a identity that expressed the uniqueness of the spaces they create. Pairing photography with some unlikely color combinations and the creation of custom greek inspired font were a few of the ways we achieved this.

Thought — “At this point I don’t want to mix music and computers. Just like it’s not good to mix friends and work, and sex.” - Murakami, What I Talk About When I Talk About Running

Sound — I’ve been adding to my Hedroom wall. It’s becoming a bit like a repository of ideas. I capture ideas and then iterate on them in the same place. A bit like voice memos but evolved.

For founders and teams ready to evolve, Bolster provides Design that helps them see, shape, and signal what comes next. Drop me a line if you’d like to chat about what comes next.
