I studied music in college. I remember a music composition class I had where the instructor said: “strumming random chords until you find something is all well and good but sometimes you need to have structure.”
Mostly I disagree with this statement. It’s hard to apply structure or formula to the invention of novel ideas. At some point it kind of just happens, there’s no real way to force it. There are, however, some things we can practice to make it flow easier.
Decisiveness is one. Decisiveness is knowing when and what to pursue. Momentum and speed is the direct result of decisiveness.
This can apply to other creative pursuits. Actually, this means that doing any kind of creative exercise is practice for all creative pursuits.

Visual — Speaking of. Tampopo, if you’re not familiar, is a Japanese film by Juzo Itami from 1985. The film is mostly about ramen but at the heart of the film is the idea of shirouto (the Japanese word for amateur) and learning how to appreciate things.
