I didn’t know this before I ran for Congress.

Tonight is my campaign’s end-of-quarter FEC deadline, one of our last ones before the general election in November.

I know that probably sounds like a lot of political jargon. Trust me, I get it.

I’m not a career politician. I’ve never run for office before. When I used to get emails and texts about urgent political deadlines, I honestly figured it was just a bunch of hot air.

But now that I’m running for Congress, I get how important these quarterly FEC deadlines actually are.

So I hope you’ll let me take a few moments to explain.

At the end of every three months, federal campaigns like ours are required by the Federal Election Commission to report our fundraising numbers.

That’s important for a few reasons.

First, these reports show where our money is coming from and how much of our campaign is powered by grassroots support from hardworking South Texans. In my opponent’s case, it will show a lot of money from GOP super PACs desperate to hold onto this seat and the House.

They also show how much money we’re bringing in, a number that national pundits and our opponents will look at to gauge the strength of this campaign.

In other words, this is our chance to prove that we’re building a movement.

South Texas came together to put TX-15 in play. After Republicans tried to gerrymander our communities and silence us, we turned a Trump +18 district into a 50/50 toss-up race.

A strong report proves that we have the resources to keep it that way.

This is Democrats’ best chance at flipping a red seat blue in Texas. It’s one of the most competitive races in the country. So this deadline tonight is the real deal.
