Thursday morning, an early rise in the pre-dawn darkness... first, a meditation sitting to clear my mind’s lingering tension... followed by coffee and buttered, toasted raisin bread (what a treat)... then to my keyboard to reflect on family disconnects. Coffee, meditation, the ability to reflect... Life is Good.
Doing what’s best for an elderly parent is a complicated path, and not always a well-marked one. Add the stress of opposing opinions, and the trail becomes unmarked entirely — the elder wants one thing, the children want another, and even the children disagree among themselves. Tension arises, tempers flare, and communication breaks down. Family is complicated. I believe that although we all grew up under the same roof, each of us matured in a different household. I see the conflicts through my own eyes, and my own ego, quick to justify itself. Meeting my siblings’ passionate views with compassion and understanding is a challenge — but knowing this will resolve itself in some future unfolding helps ease the stress. Namaste, my friends. Wishing you a day of understanding and compassion, no matter how high-strung your emotions may be.
