Thanks to each of you who read this newsletter.

I’m enjoying building my writing habit again, and it means a lot that you take the time to read it.

In This Issue:

  • House of Satisfactions Update

  • Movies Watched

  • New ComiClub Episode

  • What to [watch] this weekend

Weekly status on my comic book studio.

This week we’re focused on two things:

1) Reviewing Artists
We’re searching for artists for our stories. It’s a balance between finding the right art style, someone with followers to help promote, and of course an artist in our budget.

Our search has consisted mainly of A) a shared folder of cool artists on Instagram, and B) responses to our post on the /ComicBookCollabs subreddit.

We divided the artists into tiers based on the above criteria. There are some exciting people in the mix.

Our next step is reaching out to find out page rates.

2) Planning comic giveaways for Instagram
One of our upcoming growth strategies is giving away comics on our Instagram. To get an entry to our giveaways you’ll need to follow, like, and tag a fellow comic fan.

We’ll be giving away some valuable comics from our collections so follow the House of Satisfactions Instagram to follow along.

The Halloween season rejuvenated my movie watching appetite and I’m back in theaters regularly.

  • Bugonia - ★★★★

The more I think about it, the more I love it. More of a grounded plot forward story for Yorgos that still has his unique brand of weirdness.

  • Frankenstein - ★★★½

Meandering and boring. The best costumes you’ll see this year.

  • The Batman - ★★★★★

Started on Halloween night which is my new tradition. This is my Batman.

  • Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc - ★★★

Fails to get you to care about these superficial characters. But it has the most incredible action animation you’ve ever seen.

  • Angel’s Egg - ★★★½

Insane experimental anime film from 1985. Art direction and design by Yoshitaka Amano who did Final Fantasy art. Truly an exercise in patience. Like a wild meditation.

  • Wicked: For Good - ★★

Yuk. Just as good (in my case bad) as the first film but with worse songs. This movie will ruin The Wizard of Oz for a whole generation.

  • Blood Simple - ★★★½

Boring crime story but flashes of directorial greatness.

  • Heat - ★★★★★

A masterpiece that I finally got around to watching. Balls to the wall.

  • Train Dreams - ★★★½

Stunning photography, but I couldn’t make the leap to get invested.

  • Hamnet - ★★★★½

Beautiful portrayal of the love and loss in Shakespeare’s life. Stunning photography, and I could make the leap to get invested. I cried my eyes out.

This was a fun episode. We had special guest, friend, and die-hard ComiClub listener Ethan Galis in the third chair seat.

It was a little tricky navigating three voices on the recording but we had a ton of fun discussing this enjoyable comic, and I think that shows in the episode.

Enjoy.

I read Maggie O’Farrell’s Hamnet last year and it blew me away. I watched the movie two nights ago and it hit me hard. Bring the tissues.

Directed by: Chloé Zhao

Logline: “A powerful story of love and loss that inspired the creation of Shakespeare’s timeless masterpiece, ‘Hamlet’.”

Have I watched it yet? Yes. See above.

Where to watch? Theaters
