I’m Making a Comic Book!

I’m making a comic book. It’s coming to Kickstarter October 2026.

Creating comics is something I’ve always dreamed of. And while I’ve had many ideas swirling in my brain, I never focused enough to bring them to life.

Not until my good friend and co-creator Miller Davis reached out. Now it’s getting real.

I’ll be sharing more about the process in the coming months on this newsletter.

Meet Ms. Gertrude’s House of Satisfactions, an alternative comic book studio publishing genre stories on Kickstarter.

Our first book is “Hangwater, TX” is a southern horror anthology set in a forgotten Texas town.

My co-creator M. Miller Davis, is an old friend from back in my summer camp days. Miller and I connected over our shared love of movies and comics, and quickly became good buds. Now he’s a screenwriter living in Los Angeles.

I’ll be documenting our journey here over the coming year.

We’re reading the silly sounding Aliens Vs. Avengers over at ComiClub.

While I usually avoid these cash-grabby corporate cross-overs, this one is written by modern comics’ most prestigious writer: Jonathan Hickman.

It’s a ton of fun, and a great comic to read for someone looking for a non-continuity Marvel story.

About 30 minutes into Wicked 1 I turned to my wife and asked “is it me or is this horrible?” It was just me because my family loves it. In Wicked’s defense it does have some bangers. But these films are an embarrassing encapsulation of state of modern cinema: bloated runtime, ugly cinematography, and an over-reliance on atrocious CGI. Wicked doesn’t hold a candle to the masterful The Wizard of Oz that it owes its whole conceit to.

There is a good movie in this franchise, but these films are not it. I’d love to see someone use technicolor and practical sets for this universe. Something like a Greta Gerwig Wicked movie could be so fun. But CGI slop is what we get.

Enough negativity. I’m seeing Wicked 2 this evening with my kids and I’m going to have fun, because this time my expectations are properly set. It is so cool to watch movies through the eyes of my children.
