Movies Watched in August

I watched 4 movies in August. Super slow for me. I’ve just been in a comic book reading mood lately. That’s where I’m at right now.

1. KPop Demon Hunters (rewatch) - ★★★★★
   The hype is real. Best superhero movie of the year by far!

2. A Quiet Place: Day One - ★★
   Not a fan of the main characters.

3. The Gentlemen - ★★★½
   Fun Guy Ritchie with a tidy bow.

4. Weapons - ★★★★
   The structure of this movie is impressive and the final act is absolutely thrilling.

New Guillaume Singelin Kickstarter

I’m not the biggest Sentai fan, but I am all in on this new comic from Mathieu Bablet and Guillaume Singelin.

Guillaume Singelin is a french artist who created PTSD, an exploration of the namesake in an asian-influenced future, and Frontier, a comic I just bought the hardcover of because I’ve fallen in love with this dude’s art.

Singelin creates the art on Shin Zero, and it looks absolutely sick. I cannot wait to read this comic.

Yorgos Lanthimos Being Weird

I have two things for you. Both with Yorgos and Emma Stone.

1) Beth’s Farm
A music video with Lanthimos’ musical collaborator Jerskin Fendrix. The song has a strange background a cappella arrangement with lead vocals that remind me of the band The Dirty Projectors. The music video uses Lanthimos’ classic wide angle lenses and nonsensical concept.

2) Bugonia trailer
Yorgos Lanthimos has always been weird but the last two features have stretched my appetite for the bizarre. He’s an art-house director who brings a twisted darknessto our screens. And his films do well. Bugonia looks a tad more normal. It’s a great thriller concept that will most likely come with plenty of dark comedy beats.

What to [watch] this weekend: Caught Stealing

It’s confusing because this does not look like a Darren Aronofsky movie. Is there something weirder going on? Something beyond the surface of this crime comedy? Honestly this movie doesn’t get me super excited. But I like the two leads so I feel like I should check it out.
