I’m assembling this newsletter while watching the anime show Attack on Titan. It’s such a wild story concept. I’m not sure I actually like it, but I do enjoy it if that makes sense. Anime in the background exposes me to foreign storytelling that is totally different from my Western sensibilities.
Anyway the kids are back to school and I’m settling into my new routine. Enjoy the newsletter.

What to [listen to] this weekend
I’m committed to supporting more indie creators. Here are three I recently backed.
This is book three of a series about horror movie monsters. I’m new to this series, but not new to Kyle Starks. He is one of the funniest writers in comics and has great action sensibilities. I backed the digital pack so I can read all the stories.
Where Monsters Lie: Dead End Kickstarter
I’m mainly backing this to read Faster by Jesse Lonergan. But Testament from J. Marshall Smith looks fantastic so I got both.
Testament & Faster Kickstarter
This looks absolutely unhinged. James Coats creates “Kirby-esque Cosmic Heroes.”
Galaxy Gods issues 1 and 2 Kickstarter
These paintings are absolutely stunning.
I’m excited about this new comic series from writer Tini Howard and artist Joe Jaro. Nunsploitation with a witch-hunter main character. Yes please.
This Jenny Frison cover sealed the deal for me. She does the best female portraits in the game.
Go read Tini Howard’s newsletter here:
Mac has become a down-tempo crooner. He is a true-blue indie bedroom musician who plays every instrument on his records.
I think he undercuts the quality of his music with his goofball aesthetic that’s even too weird for me. But there is no denying that Mac is himself.
Created by: Mac DeMarco
Logline: “For me, this record sounds the most like me that I've ever been able to put across”
