How terrifying is it to revisit old code that works fine for a long time, but now needs to be modified to fit it to an upgraded environment. Small change perhaps, but the original coders are long gone, the detailed documentation is lost, and code is virtually unreadable either because the language is obsolete or of a very old version, or the list of conditions checked before any action is largely obsolete, but you are not really sure.

You cannot even write the whole package from scratch, since you are not sure what it does under all conditions, including infrequent ones. So you need to play with the code that works, and what do you know, the compilers and interpreters you have are 'slightly different', and the recompiled and reinterpreted code is not working.

Now what?

That is where AI comes into play. In goes an old set of code, and out comes:  the same code rewritten in your favorite language, clearly, readable, well documented. Moreover, the code is summarized, even twice or more -- in growing generality as to what the code does.

This AI output is ready for human consumption, to read, understand and design the necessary modifications.

How much dark effort making sense of old code will you save? That is your incentive to help BitMint develop its BitMint-AI Code-Rewriter. Ask us how, Gideon@BitMint.com
