DVR ALERT
More than just ballgames are being broadcast on MASN this month. A superb documentary about the building of Camden Yards is running multiple times.
“Creating Camden Yards,” a 90-minute oral history produced by The Shirley Povich Center for Sports Journalism at the University of Maryland’s Philip Merrill College of Journalism, is a must-see for any fan of Orioles history.
Student journalists conducted more than 60 interviews to help unspool the story of the building of one of baseball’s iconic ballparks. Interview subjects include Janet Marie Smith, Jon Miller and Ben McDonald, all of whom can also be heard in the Bird Tapes Podcast stream, as can former Orioles beat writer Mark Hyman, who oversaw the documentary project in his current role as the director of the Povich Center.
Although the documentary has already been broadcast on MASN several times, have no fear. It’s still going to be shown at the following times:
Thursday, June 18 — 2:30 a.m.
Thursday, June 18 — 7 p.m.
Thursday, June 25 — 7 p.m.
Saturday, June 27 — 5 p.m.
My advice — do not miss it.
(Note: If you want to consume the Camden Yards project another way, the work is always available online. Just click on this link.)
