A Prayer for Creation

Father,

You are the God who spoke, and the world came alive. The Maker of every good gift. The trees, the flowers, the clouds, the wide and crashing sea.

And I simply want to say THANK YOU.

Because when I slow down, my eyes begin to open. And when my eyes open, I see Your creation. And when I see Your creation, I clearly see You.

The Creator.

Right there. In the middle of everything I walked past without noticing.

You have infused Your love into all of it. Into the leaves. Into the birdsong. Into the weight and magnificence of a beauty I am too rushed to behold. Your Word says the heavens declare Your glory, and the skies proclaim the work of Your hands. The mountains break into song. The trees of the field clap their hands. Since the beginning, Your invisible qualities have been clearly seen — understood through the things You have made.

So open my mind. Open my eyes. Let me truly take it in.

Forgive me for the times I missed it. For the mornings I woke up breathing and never looked up. For the sunlight glimmering through the leaves that I hurried past. For the waves I never went to watch — the ones that would have reminded me how carefully You formed my inner being. For treating this whole miracle like wallpaper, so fixed on the numbers on a statement that I could not lift my eyes to the reality of what You made.

Open my eyes, Lord.

The same way those leaves are intricate and eternally magnificent — that is how You made me. The same way the birds sing and whistle — that is how You made us all. We are part of this absolute miracle, and I let it fade into the background.

Where I have been surrounded by beauty, I will not call it scenery.

Where I have been given breath and sky and sunlight, I will not call it luck.

Where I have been placed inside a living miracle, I will not call it ordinary.

And where I have walked past You a thousand times, I will stop, and turn, and look again.

So today I choose to behold.

To take the walk. To sit in the park. To watch the waves break against the shore. To lie down on the grass and feel the wind and the rain and the light coming through the leaves. To notice the fine detail of my child’s face. The textures of my mother’s hands. The smell of flowers, the smell of food. The beauty of people speaking, gesturing, laughing. The pets who leap into our laps and receive our love.

This is my ode to the joy that comes from Your creation.

I want to live the way You made me. To absorb it, behold it, and praise You through all of it.

You were good before I noticed. You will be good after this season passes. You are good right now. Singing through the birds, breathing through everything alive.

And now I have eyes to see it.

Thank You, Father. From the bottom of everything I am.

In the powerful name of Jesus — the Name above every name, the One through whom all things were made.

Amen.
