Much to my surprise, and actual shock, there are more and more colours sneaking into my imagination that I would love to use in some form or another in our renovation. Who even am I?!
Actually, when I think about it, it’s just me, going full circle really. I have painted a dining room the brightest aqua I could find in the past, I did paint the bedroom a barbie pink, a coffee table acid yellow, and door frames neon greens, so really, this makes perfect sense - it’s like the old colour me, mixed with the new neutral me, meeting somewhere in the middle. Maybe I shouldn’t be so surprised.
And no, when I say more and more colours, I’m not talking about different shades and tones of beiges and browns, though they will be making plenty of appearances too, but this house will have much more colour than our last one. Not that our old house was devoid of colour, but I have tended to play it relatively safe more recently, but here I want to have more fun.
So, what’s on the colour menu?
Soft Greens and Sea Foams…
There are few places where I see these colours making an appearance, and one of them is the downstairs loo. I like the idea of drenching the tiny space in all one colour and have got it in my head that I can’t possibly have a white toilet in there. This one by Catalano is a really good shade - a bit muted to stop it being too sweet, as well as making it decidedly contemporary. They also do matching countertop basins, which has historically been a bit of a sticking point for me as I don’t generally love them, but I think if you have a coloured loo, then you just can’t have a white basin, so I think I could make an exception. I can also see some gloss walls in my future in this house, and what better place to have a bit of fun and throw caution to the wind than the tiniest room in the house!
Last year, or even the year before that I saw an image of a cloakroom painted in a very pale muted green grey with a bit of yellow that has lived rent free in my head ever since. I’d love to use that unidentified colour in this house - maybe in part of the hall, or the study. I’ve been compiling a list of potential dupes on my phone ever since, and I’m not even really sure that they’re anything like the original inspiration that I can no longer find, but it’s taken on a life of its own in my had which I kind of like. One day I’ll find it and it will be a completely different colour no doubt. But I’ve fallen in love with these colours all the same…
