If you haven’t yet, the page, “What is Reasonable?” gives a good background and frames the problem that we will set out to solve.

In general, the mission of Beyond Reasonable is to find simple, practical, “reasonably beyond reasonable” approaches to improve upon our “merely reasonable” thinking patterns. It’s not so much wisdom, per se, but rather the stepping stones to wisdom. Rules of thumb and mnemonics to build an intuition for how to stay on the path of cultivation. It is acknowledged up front that I am not seeking grand truths, The Solution, or formalisms and systems. I will, however, be drawing upon multimodal ways of thinking.

In the following foundational posts, I will:

  • Cut to the chase: presenting a “reasonably beyond reasonable” solution that I like to call the “journey to multidimensionality.” A corollary of this post will be he pragmatic need for increasing mental abundance/capacity/bandwidth.

  • In a multipart series, draw upon Buddhism to highlight some common pitfalls of understandable, average, “merely reasonable” thought, and mental heuristics to overcome them. This series will illustrate how I believe one of the main patterns behind Buddhist wisdom is to guide us beyond habitually-reasonable thoughts.

  • Bonus speculation on how to dispel metaphysical confusion.

Subsequently I will dive into resonances with other thinkers, to show how the journey beyond mere reasonableness takes on a similar pattern across many domains and stories.

The hope is to illustrate that going beyond reasonable shouldn’t feel unreasonable at all; rather, it should feel like an activity that you’ve probably done before, and now can repeat across other domains.
