Hello folks, welcome back to How I Cook!
I’ve got another little city guide here, packed with food, thoughts and spots from my recent trip to the US.
Oftentimes, city guides or more widely, travel listicles are a lot of waffle that tread the same, Topjaw’d ground (go up the Rockefeller Centre! Eat a hot dog! Central Park!) and offer little to no insight on the actual fabric of the place you’re visiting. I prefer those that are succinct and confident, recommending just a handful of restaurants/bars/shops/things-to-do that are meaningful to the author and by extension, the audience.
When folks visit somewhere like New York City, it’s usually not for weeks on end. More often than not, a visit averages somewhere between three and five days, a frantic pavement-pounding long weekend. The reality is, the city is enormous, there’s some serious ground to cover and whilst you never really beat the jet lag, your feet ache after crushing 20k daily steps none of it really matters because there’s a whole mountain of spectacular food, art, drinks, shows, bars and experiences to squeeze in. Time is precious and decision making is important, you need to plan. To help, I want to recommend a handful of places that I think are special and worth making time for.
I lived in the city ten years ago, and made my first trip back in eight years. The following guide incorporates my experience across all of these years, distilling a list of places that I really think are worth a visit.
I hope you enjoy. B x
