90 Days Cohort - Content Creation Empire
Dear Creators,
This is not our usual newsletter.
It’s a midnight 🌙 note for every creator lying awake, thinking about the next move, the next idea, the next platform and wondering which direction is actually worth taking.
Tonight, let’s talk about the decisions that quietly shape a creator’s career.
Open Instagram for ten minutes and you’ll find ten different versions of what you should be doing. Start a podcast. Post more Reels. Build a newsletter. Launch a course. Create long-form content. Build a community. Use AI. Become a founder.
None of this advice is necessarily wrong. The problem is that you cannot follow all of it at the same time. Creators today don’t have an information problem. They have a decision-making problem.
There are more platforms, formats, tools and business opportunities than any creator can realistically pursue. So the question is no longer, What can I do?
It is - What deserves my attention right now?
Because every yes has a cost.
If you start a podcast, that time comes from somewhere. If you join another platform, your attention gets divided. If you accept every brand deal, you may make more money today but slowly weaken audience trust. If you chase every trend, you may gain views without building anything people remember you for.
The difficult part is that bad decisions rarely look bad in the beginning. Most distractions arrive looking like opportunities.
A creator may be making YouTube videos, posting Reels, running a newsletter, recording a podcast and building a course - all at once. Everything looks productive from the outside. But if nothing is getting enough attention to become exceptional, the creator is busy without actually moving forward.
So how do you decide?
Before saying yes to something new, ask yourself four simple questions.
Does this serve the audience I actually want?
A viral piece of content can bring thousands of followers, but if those people don’t care about your core work, that growth can become a problem. You may find yourself creating more and more content for an audience you never intended to build.
A useful question is - If this becomes extremely successful, do I actually want the audience it will attract?
Next, ask - Does this strengthen what I want to be known for?
Every video, collaboration and brand partnership teaches your audience something about you. Over time, those small signals become your positioning.
Creators often calculate what an opportunity will pay them. They rarely calculate what it might cost their reputation.
Then ask - If this works, what does it build?
Not every project needs to make money immediately. Some projects build reach. Some build trust. Some build authority, community, relationships or intellectual property.
But you should know the role of the project.
There is a big difference between starting a podcast because everyone else has one and starting a podcast because long-form conversations are the best way to build trust with your specific audience.
Same format. Completely different strategy.
Finally, ask - What will this cost me beyond time?
Creators usually calculate hours and money. They forget mental energy.
A one-hour podcast is not a one-hour commitment. There is research, preparation, scheduling, recording, feedback and promotion. Some projects quietly occupy your mind long after the actual work is finished.
Creative energy is a limited resource. Treat it carefully.
This is also why every new idea does not need to become a major commitment.
Curious about podcasting? Record three pilot episodes.
Thinking about a new niche? Create ten pieces of content before changing your entire identity.
Want to start a newsletter? Publish for one month before building a complicated strategy around it.
Experiment before you commit.
Small experiments give you information. Big commitments create pressure.
And sometimes, the best decision is simply to ignore an opportunity.
Not every new platform deserves your presence. Not every trend deserves your opinion. Not every collaboration deserves a yes.
The ability to ignore things is becoming a serious competitive advantage.
The early creator journey requires saying yes - to publishing, learning, experimenting and taking uncomfortable opportunities.
But as you grow, the game changes.
Growth creates options and options create distraction.
At that stage, progress often comes from knowing what to say no to.
Nobody sees the podcast you decided not to start. Nobody sees the brand deal you rejected or the trend you ignored.
They only see the better work you were able to create because your attention stayed focused.
So the next time an exciting opportunity appears, don’t immediately ask -
How can I do this?
Ask -
Why should I do this and what am I choosing not to do if I say yes?
In a world of unlimited opportunities, knowing where not to spend your attention might be one of the most valuable creator skills you can build.
Keep Creating. Keep Compounding.
