Memes are no longer just jokes.
They are becoming the language of the internet.
A good meme can say in 3 seconds what a brand presentation takes 30 slides to explain.
It can communicate an emotion.
Start a conversation.
Build a community.
Sell an idea.
Build awareness.
Generate demand.
And has full potential to sell products/services.
That’s why I believe memes will become one of the biggest forces in marketing and communication.
Traditional marketing says - Look at us.
Meme culture says - We get you.
That difference is everything.
People don’t want brands interrupting culture.
They want brands that understand culture.
The next generation of great marketers won’t just know ads, copywriting, and analytics.
They’ll understand timing.
Context.
Internet communities.
And most importantly, what makes people want to hit Share.
You can copy a meme format.
You can’t copy cultural instinct.
Meme culture is a super communication infrastructure.
And the future of marketing might look less like an advertisement…
…and more like something you immediately send to your group chat.
Main types of memes worth talking and making:
Reaction memes - express an emotion or response instantly.
Relatable memes - this is literally me moments from work, relationships, money, college, etc.
Trend memes - built around a viral moment, event, dialogue or format.
Template memes - familiar images or formats reused with new text and context.
Video memes - short clips, edits, remixes, lip-syncs and reaction videos.
Niche memes - jokes made specifically for communities like developers, founders, gamers, finance people or marketers.
Brand memes - memes created by companies to participate in culture and connect with audiences.
Political and social commentary memes - humor used to communicate opinions about politics, society or current events.
Absurdist memes - intentionally weird, random, surreal or nonsensical humor.
Meta-memes - memes about memes, internet behavior, platforms, algorithms and online culture itself.
The future belongs to those who understand memes.
Everyone else will still be in a meeting, discussing the campaign. 😄
