We survived another summer week! This week was all about crafty rabbit holes for me and I’m itching to head out to an art store because I need a new awl (does anyone know where I put mine?) and maybe a new grommet tool? You’ll see why in the craft section. It’s a whole thing.

Anyway! Let’s get into it!

I actually posted on Instagram?! I just wanted to show everyone my recent haul from daisous.com. Did you know that you can order in bulk from Daiso?! It was the only way for me to get the supplies I needed for this DIY journal cover. I was genuinely tickled by having Daiso delivered to my door.

• Lauren Morsely - I love a blueberry illustration and this mini riso print is just too cute.

• Pitah Pat - Speaking of riso printing, this caterpillar notepad is adorable!

• Etta Kostik Designs - Look at these stained glass earrings!

• Keiko Furoshiki - This Japanese-born artist, currently working in Missouri, designs these beautiful furoshiki! I also love this tote bar that turns the wraps into a bag.

• Meld Maker Studio - This Summer Blooms Vase is by an artist names Amanda. This studio has lots of classes and seems to really support their artists. So cool.

• Maggie O-Brien - I love the idea of serializing a memoir! You get a monthly zine and can put them together in a single book after a year.

It was an artsy week over here, y’all! I tried Kinusaiga for the first time using this tutorial for a mini quilt. I am fully obsessed and will be making more quilt-inspired pieces. It’s such a great way to use up scraps and a perfect craft to help you get over your perfectionism.

I started to overthink the fabric placement and had to remind myself to let it go. After that, I really enjoyed the process and finished this in one afternoon. It took longer than expected (doesn’t everything?), but I really had fun with it!

It’s mostly Ruby Star Society fabric, with some small strawberries from JoAnn (years ago!) and some thrifted gingham.

The DIY journal I mentioned earlier didn’t go quite as well. My grommet tool broke and took off the color of the eyelets I ordered. I tried a hole punch and that was way too big for what I needed. Then, I couldn’t find my awl so I could make an appropriately sized hole for the elastic to go through.

You know that feeling when you’re excited for a new craft, but nothing goes right and you can’t finish it when you wanted? It just feels incomplete! Accepting that feeling is stupid and necessary 🫠

Anyway! That’s why I need to find a new awl today. I WILL finish this project!

The Artist’s Way Progress!

I’m still in my first week and had to do a lot of journaling that brought up way more stuff than expected. The Artist Date is the hardest part for me to make time for, especially during the summer when I’m the primary caretaker for our 10 year old. But I still have a couple of days to carve out that time!

The first week is very introspective, which I kind of love. We’ll see how week two goes!

• Shadow & Storms by Helen Scheuerer (audiobook via Libby) - I don’t have a lot of time for audiobooks during the summer. The titles I tend to I listen to aren’t appropriate for a general audience 😬 and can’t be broadcast around the house. Unfortunately, since I didn’t have a lot of solo car time this week, I had to return this audiobook before I was done. I’m back on the hold list, so let’s all cross our fingers that the girlies who get it next love a 2x speed lol!

• Shield of Sparrows by Devney Perry (hardback) - Still in the beginning, but I can feel myself getting sucked in!
