Last week’s article was about perseverance as one of my top three ingredients for successful outcomes. A strong reason for wishing to have this outcome, i.e., a strong “why”, was another, while the third ingredient was a can-do attitude coupled with high but contained positive energy.
And then there’s resourcefulness that is so closely linked to perseverance because it too requires of us to keep showing up, to keep doing the difficult things, to keep on, day in, day out, through the challenges, through the frustrations.
Resourcefulness also requires of us to find solutions to big problems and small problems, preferably in the most efficient, sensible, logical way to conserve our energy and prevent us from going round in circles and making no progress.
And it definitely requires of us to make sacrifices – perhaps we will have to curtail our social lives for a while. Perhaps we will have to hold off spending money on something because we need to spend money on our business.
Resourcefulness is one of the more “fun” ingredients for aiming to have successful outcomes. It requires imagination, it requires us to find new and different ways of doing things, it requires us to pivot – if A does not work, we move on to B. We do not wallow; we do not lose sight of the reason we want to achieve whatever it is we want to achieve. Like perseverance, it is very much “I can do this. I will do this. I will find a way over, around, under whatever I meet on the path” – particularly the last bit: I will find a way to do this. I will find the means to do it even without money, the required skill, the time. There has to be a way.
Don’t have money to buy a programme that converts text to video? Read the text yourself, record the video yourself.
Don’t have the skill to record the video? Go online, check out the countless free resources, learn how to do it.
Don’t have the time? Keep a log for a week of where your time is spent, in the way people do with calories and what they eat daily to help them achieve their weight-loss goals. And you will probably see that could use your time better.
And if we are honest, in general, we all waste money, we all waste time, we all waste resources, whether it is our energy on things and people where there is no reciprocity, on tasks that only help us go through the motions, not build or do something of substance.
Something is just not working as we expected it to or we are not getting an outcome we needed? Instead of doing the same thing over and over trying to force the thing, we pivot, we do something different, we try something different. We find another way.
Another factor that helps us achieve our successful outcomes is getting out of our comfort zones. We love living in our comfort zones, don’t we? We are set in our ways; this is how we have always done it. We are too nervous or anxious or lacking in confidence to step up, grab whatever it is by the horns, and just get on with things. We hate speaking in front of people; we hate doing recordings on video where we show our faces; we hate how we sound; we hate how we look; we couldn’t possibly ever do that.
And yet, there is such satisfaction in being resourceful, in using our imagination to get things done.
There is such satisfaction in conquering a fear, learning a new skill, getting out of our comfort zone, our safe zone, our “this is how I’ve always done it, and this is all I know” zone. There really is. But no one can do any of this for us. We have to take responsibility. We have to be accountable even if just to ourselves.
And we have to do it. We have to find a way over, through, under, around that big obstacle. We have to find a way to make the uncomfortable comfortable.
We adapt. We pivot. We do whatever it takes.
It’s easier than we think. It just requires a strong reason, and we can do anything.
Speaking of which, (i) I initiated a talk about stress in an environment I have never been in and delivering it in a language I speak, read and write but I have never delivered a formal talk in this language. But I initiated it, I am preparing for it, and I will do it. (ii) Tier II of the Paco Straws Framework for Emotional Stabilization for Everyday Empowered Women™ is on track to be launched in the next couple of weeks. Like the other two courses, this requires a lot – and I am doing it, one step at a time.
I could not be more excited. And I really look forward to having you on board.
Thanks for reading.
