Over the years, I’ve noticed something about writing advice.
Most of it assumes you’re starting from a calm place.
Write every day.
Write without editing yourself.
Write first thing in the morning.
Write through your feelings.
There’s nothing wrong with that advice.
But it doesn’t leave much room for the writer whose nervous system is already on high alert before they even pick up a pen.
When anxiety hits, writing can quickly become another place to overthink, second-guess, and spiral. Instead of closing the notebook feeling lighter, we often walk away carrying even more than we sat down with.
I know because I’ve been there.
For a long time, I expected writing to quiet my anxiety.
When it didn’t, I assumed I was doing something wrong.
It took me years to realize I wasn’t failing at writing.
I was simply beginning from the wrong place.
This isn’t a course about writing more, and it isn’t about finding the perfect words or building a daily writing habit.
It’s about learning how to begin differently, especially on the days when your mind is moving faster than your pen.
Inside this course, you’ll move through three lessons.
You’ll learn why anxiety often changes how we approach writing, and why the first few minutes before you put pen to paper can shape everything that follows.
You’ll discover how to approach difficult stories without feeling as though you have to begin with the hardest part, learning how to write in a way that feels steady rather than overwhelming.
You’ll explore why the way we finish a writing session matters just as much as the way we begin, and how ending with intention can help you step away without holding onto every word for the rest of the day.
Each lesson includes a short teaching followed by a guided writing practice.
Whether your words end up in a journal, a poem, an essay, or a book, I hope the practices you find here make sitting down to write feel a little less overwhelming.
Lesson One will be available this Friday for everyone.
Lessons Two and Three will follow over the next two weeks for paid subscribers, giving you time to sit with each practice before moving on to the next.
As a paid subscriber, you’ll receive full access to every course, guided practice, and resource as it’s released, including the remaining lessons in Tending the Soil.
I’d love to welcome you inside.
I’m so glad you’re here.
Let’s begin.
