A week in Capalbio

Last Monday, we woke up early, packed the car, and headed about two hours north of Rome to the small Tuscan town of Capalbio to stay with our friends, who are renting a wonderful house there for the summer. Capalbio is one of those places where you get the best of both worlds with easy access to the beach, along with the rolling hills, sunflower fields, and picturesque countryside you think of when you dream of Tuscany. This region has become one of our favorite escapes from Rome, and over the past few years we've loved exploring nearby towns like Ansedonia, Orbetello, and Porto Ercole. This trip, we spent most of our time relaxing and cooking at the house, with a few days at Ultima Spiaggia, the beach club our friends joined for the summer. I even ran into my friend Carly from LA, who happened to be staying at the fantastic boutique hotel across the street from us, Locanda Rossa. If you're planning a family trip to Italy and want to experience both the Tuscan countryside and the beach without venturing too far from Rome, I highly recommend adding this area to your itinerary.
