You could’ve picked anywhere to spend your reading time, but you landed in my sweet and cozy world where the only steamy thing you’ll find in here is the coffee.
In South Carolina, summer isn’t really a season. It’s a lifestyle choice that requires you to become BFFs with your local air conditioning service people.
One day it’s mild and pleasant. Before you can schedule a beach day, the temperature shoots up, making you reconsider every buying those flip-flops at the Dollar Tree.
Summer in South Carolina is the time of year when:
Your steering wheel feels like a cast iron skillet fresh off the stove
The humidity makes the air so think it feels like you could chew it, and we won’t even begin to discuss what it does to your hair
And the gazebo trimmed in fairy lights that overlooks the pond in your front yard becomes purely decorative (Thanks, mosquitos!)
Which makes summer the perfect season to stay indoors. I stock up on my favorite brand of coffee (served iced instead of hot) and make sure my favorite reading chair (the recliner in my bedroom) is positioned directly proportional to the HVAC vent.
In summary, the months of mid-May through mid-September turn me into an indoor cat. I want to read, nap, snack with iced coffee, repeat.
My husband, on the other hand, thrives in the summer. He doesn’t mind the heat at all. You’ll find him on the beach with his metal detector or doing yard work. Sometimes he goes on a walk through town with our sons—on purpose. I’m saving up for an air conditioned golf cart so I can go with them.
