Hello dear readers! It took a grand total of four days without the use of my right hand to become a sulking lump. My right hand is my favorite appendage; all my hobbies and interests involve it in some way. Luckily I can still play with our daughter with only one hand.
Bub’s favorite appendages are her legs; she’s taken up walking in the last month and spends all her time walking around the well-gated house. She’s already trying to jog, which leads to plenty of tumbles, including a tumble into my sore wrist.
Her other hobby is imitating sounds she hears. When I shouted “OW!” after she landed on my wrist, she cheerfully said, “Ow.”
I recently came across the ink drawings of illustrator Nikolai Ustinov. My favorite image is one that feels so cold it makes me want to put on a sweater. He has since died, but there is an interesting interview with him.
In a similar vein, I’ve been enjoying the ink drawings of Soviet illustrator Nikita Charushin. (Click any of the book covers to see more of the book.) I think his illustrations for From North To South are particularly beautiful.
