June 29th is one of those super charged days when everything happens all at once. We have Mercury turning retrograde in Cancer in the early afternoon and Moon comes to fullness in the evening in the opposite sign of Capricorn. The axis of care, home, safety, structure and legacy are going to be very prominent for us in the next four weeks. Here is a timeline for Mercury retrograde in Cancer
June 12th - pre-shadow period begins at 16º Cancer
June 29th - Mercury Rx begins at 26º of Cancer
July 12th - Retrograde midpoint, Mercury Cazimi at 20º Cancer ( the clarity moment)
July 23rd - Mercury goes direct at 16º Cancer
August 7th - We are out Mercury retrograde shadow period
Whenever Mercury goes retrograde it turns our attention inward, to the mechanisms that are subtly pulling the strings of our mind, and the retrograde in Cancer is about mechanisms that are bone deep and woven into our systems with milk and blood. Mercury in Cancer is ruled by the Moon, so there are many faces this retrograde will present us with, depending on the lunar transits, every 2.5 days we’ll be experiencing a new flavour of this Mercury Rx. We’ll be internally guided to look at what has been forgotten or ignored, but holds a great deal of truth about who we are at our core. The significance of this retrograde is that Mercury is also a ruler of South Node transit through Virgo, and South Node is on the way out of Virgo. This tells us that Virgo house in our charts is another area under revision and culmination of sorts through this retrograde. Themes of service, work, routine, health and our ability to be selective about all of the above.

This retrograde takes place in a very interesting time, many planets are changing signs and outer planets are forming a number of significant aspects. Mercury being the glue of the zodiac, delivering the tea from one planet to another, when retrograding in Cancer is going to be about alignment that is beyond intellectualization, desire or need. This is about a new soul contract being drafted and internally negotiated. The memory of ancestral agreements is activated, what is the long standing contract people in your lineage carried through is now measured against the requirements of the moment you find yourself in. Of course themes of home, homeland, place of living, safety, nourishment and relationship to your family are coming to the forefront. Your natal Moon placement can tell you a more specific direction this retrograde will take.
I find it interesting that Mercury almost meets Jupiter in Cancer, but stops just a few degrees away and turns retrograde, as Jupiter enters Leo. Mercury has to go over the work that Jupiter accomplished in Cancer in the past year, and it needs to gather and process the bits of truth and data and meaning Jupiter left behind before the meeting can take place. And it is something I look forward to as a significant confirmation moment that will take place on August 15th at 10º Leo. What an affirmation of re-negotiated inner contracts that will be.

Now let’s add another unavoidable piece to this retrograde, the Full Moon in Capricorn. There is something we are granted at this point, it is a resource, a correct feeling, an idea, an understanding about the container you want to create. Whatever it is we are given, we are going to be tested with. Can you hold something and fulfill it in this reality? Something is provided but if it is accepted without maturity or devotion, it morphes into trouble down the line. The Full Moon being a ruler of Mercury turning retrograde is telling us that going back out of fear is not the way, old scenarios that have been finished have to stay in the past. This is a fork in the road, and one path is crystal clear, it leads back, another one has very few guarantees, but it is the second one I hope most of us take. This Full Moon in Capricorn squares its ruler Saturn in Aries. There is a question about you and your ancestral wiring that becomes central here, it is about the boundary between what you inherited and who you are outside of this inheritance? This lunation asks us to see the space between you and those who came before you honestly, and recognize where you keep carrying the baggage that you needed to put down long ago.
The next lunar cycle is a pressure cooker, that either crystalizes the authentic path or breaks down the container, depending on your inner vertical.
