Essentially, what makes your heart full and nervous system feel held?

This year, there’s been a theme and deep appreciation for feeling ‘at home’. The people, places, and things that allow me to feel safe, comforted, and aligned with myself.

People

People who I can be my complete self around. Spend your energy on salt of the earth humans who you trust and who make you feel seen, accepted, valued, and loved. And keep those who make you feel anything less at arms length.

When I am fully present — and when someone is fully present with me. I heard somewhere that ‘presence should be added to the love language list’ and I agree.

Heartfelt, uplifting, and expansive conversations. Topics in joy, humor, self-betterment, creativity, perspective.

The more I continue to work on loving and truly accepting myself, flaws and all, the more I feel at home.

Places

When I discover a place for the first time and am moved, I feel at home.

When at a restaurant or hotel (any kind of hospitality) where the attention to detail is so carefully considered, special, and makes you feel lucky to experience it all — I feel at home.

This also goes for when hosted by loved ones and noticing how much thought and care went into creating an experience for connection and memories. The art of taking care of others to make them feel right at home.

The places that bring out the best in me. Where you feel like maybe you lived there in another life because you feel such a connection and pull… those places we all collect throughout life, they make me feel at home. San Francisco, Carmel, Paris, and Casa Privata (in Praino, Italy) are some of mine.

Things

Routines/rituals that make me feel my best. Taking moments for myself (lately, early mornings before my kids wake up) feel so grounding and comforting. I have been making a matcha to start my day and sitting with my journal. I also have been taking walking breaks (without my phone). Quieting the world around me and being with my thoughts.

An outfit that makes me feel like me!

The collections around my home that become part of my signature.

Anytime something beautiful happens or captivates me and I take an exhale while I soak it in. These moments always have me thinking: this is what it is all about… and I feel at home.

Just thought this was a fun exercise to share — to think about and appreciate the things in your life that make you feel the most you, the most content, grateful… at home.
