After my last video showing the work I’ve been doing on Mary Lou, my Mercedes-Benz ML320 CDI (W164 Chassis), somebody asked about how to disable EGR on these engines. The easy answer is “you’ll need a tune,” but I show several things about how the exhaust and coolant systems function on this engine. These facts need to be understood and considered when making any modifications to the systems involved.
I show how I disabled EGR on Mary Lou multiple years ago. Please note that this may be a violation of emissions laws where you live, so you should consider this to be a modification for off-road use only. That said, EGR is terrible on diesel engines. It reduces efficiency and performance, while shortening the life of these engines by plugging the intake manifolds and valves with gooey crap.
