A note before we launch into this week’s post. This month, we’re offering find the good as an invitation to explore and think in our Reflection Studio. We are currently all experiencing intense whiplash, with images and experiences of unthinkable injustice and cruelty and of incredible bravery, compassion, and empathy. What can children teach us in these moments and how might we unlink the definition of good from compliance, quiet, and deference? Now more than ever, we need thinkers, makers, creators, disruptors, and protestors.

Like much of our region, I’ve been home since Saturday, and my kids went back to school today (Thursday) as I am writing this. Yesterday, the school finally caved to the pressure of the attendance policy and announced a dreaded virtual learning day, sending us eerily right back into 2020-2021 pandemic energy. We charged up a super old work laptop for one child in my office and set up our younger child at the kitchen table with the laptop I am using to write this post. We started with a live Zoom morning meeting. My child’s incredibly patient teacher taught everyone how to unmute and mute themselves. From there, as I’m sure many of you can relate, it only went downhill. We tried to show-and-tell our pet tortoise in the morning meeting, and she peed what felt like a gallon right into my lap.
