When I last met with my astrologer at the end of 2024, he told me I was about to enter one of the best work stretches of my life.

Jupiter was about to cross my midheaven, he said. April was the month to watch. Doors opening, doors I hadn’t even noticed were closed. A chance to take things to another level.

I nodded along and filed it under cool, whatever the stars want to tell me. At the time I was deep in the baby phase with Hazel, who wasn’t yet one, still navigating the shift in my four-year-old’s life now no longer being the only child, and on autopilot at work running brand partnerships in-house. Work felt like something I did to keep the lights on, not something I wanted more of (in fact, I dreamed of less).

Then April 2025 actually happened. I got laid off and started this newsletter. A couple months later, my public Instagram account, and by the end of summer, my own LLC to do marketing consulting work.

Over the last year of choosing how I work and what I work on as an independent contractor and as an individual building a personal brand online, I’ve come to enjoy working more than I ever have before. And I think that’s because it feels like mine. It is mine!
