“How is it possible that you are not called?” These are the words that the 15th century monk Martin Luther wrote to inform the German people that they too had vocations. Great works were not only for the priests within the church, they could be done by all. Since then we have forgotten the heart of this message.

The Protestant Reformation came and went, The Enlightenment came and went and The Industrial Revolution came and went too. The modern age inherited ways of living from these periods, such as excessive effort, mechanical thinking, capitalistic clock counting and the power of productivity. Over time humanity released its grip on the sacred and grabbed tightly onto work without inherent meaning. Work became meaningless.

Yet humanity can still have sacred work woven into their lives as every individual has a vocation. In the words of Luther, ‘How is it possible that you are not called?’

In the following article for our Paid Subscribers we will go over two lessons to help understand how pursuing the vocation turns work sacred.
