We are looking for writers who are willing to write essays or lessons on the topics of vocation, craft and calling. Since 2024 Joel Uili has written each of our articles, but as we’ve grown we are looking for a diverse set of voices to report and convey the one topic that The Career Archetypes is built on: The Vocation.
While we will still be delivering the writing that our subscribers have come to know, we are looking to open our publication to a wider variety of wisdom and knowledge through this submission process—which we hope might deliver a far richer experience for readers of The Career Archetypes!

Payment: The Career Archetypes will pay $100USD per article we select to publish. Articles will be published on The Career Archetypes Substack.
How many articles will we select?: For this submission round we will select at least one submission for publication, but we are hoping to select multiple!
Will we accept previously published work? No, we would prefer unpublished work.
Can you submit more than once? Yes, you’re welcome to submit more than once.
Authorship & Credit: Your name, a short bio, and a link to your website or social media channel will be included if you would like. It will be clear that you wrote it. You will own your work.

Practitioners of vocation: Anyone who is an expert at a creative craft. We are looking for people who can bring experience from their particular craft and transfer it into wisdom for all.
Beginners of vocation: The beginning of a vocation is fraught with difficulty and lessons, we are open to hearing from those at the beginning of their path who are willing to distill their experiences into an elegant and informative format.
Writers: We’d love to hear from writers from all backgrounds who are willing to take on researching and writing about the topic of vocation.
Historians: Interested in history and have a vocation specific figure, time period, or subject which connects to vocation and might be interesting for others to learn about? We’d love to read your work.
Philosophers: We would love to hear from philosophers who are able to distill their ideas into an essay. The Career Archetypes is built on an undercurrent of philosophy, since our founder is a philosopher, and believe this type of work is extremely important.
Philosophies, ideas, and concepts surrounding the idea of ‘vocation’: As the pursuit of a vocation is a vast undertaking, there is much to discover, and we’d love to hear from others who have developed ideas around these topics. We are also looking for other people to expand, dissect, and explore Joel Uili’s philosophies further.
Cultural essays around vocation: As mentioned, ‘work’ is a big topic, and here at The Career Archetypes our entire mission is to put forward a new order of sacred work that does not demean the human spirit, but amplifies it. There is much to say, in both macro and micro cultures all over the world, about the world of work and vocation. We want to hear from writers that are able to bring this into view.
Profiles of authors, artists, historical figures and more: We have created profiles of certain people with a focus on their vocation and what they can teach us: For example, Donna Tartt, Murakami, Doechii. The purpose of these profiles is to learn from the wisdom they have given us simply from walking their path. We would love to read some vocation profiles written by others! This is an incredibly rich area.
Lessons, experiences, wisdom, and advice from those deep into their vocation: Florists, cinematographers, actors, novelists, designers, songwriters, poets—the list goes on. But we would like to hear from you as we believe you have deep wisdom. And we’d love to learn more about your particular craft in the process!
Personal essays and insights from those just beginning their vocation, or in the middle: Alongside experts, we believe it is important to hear from those in other parts of the vocation path. If pursuing a vocation is a lifelong venture, then there are thousands (or millions) of points in which a writer can report from. Mid-life vocation changes, retirement, the discovery phase! We welcome all.
Wildcards! We do not assume we know the exhaustive list of what might be interesting. As long as your writing focuses on the general topics we are looking for (vocation, craft, callings) we are open to reading your work.
Poetry, fiction, short stories. Essays riddled with statistics (we are not looking for something you might find on LinkedIn) or “10 hacks” type of writing.
Anything generated or influenced by AI. We are vehemently pro-human, therefore we will not accept anything in which AI had ANY part in the process. This includes: ideation phase, research, generating text, editing or formatting. We want 0% AI input. If AI has touched any part of your work or mind in creating your submission, we do not want it. By submitting to this publication you have agreed that no amount of AI was used. If it is discovered you have used AI, we will remove your work and blacklist you from future submission opportunities.
