More scufflings behind the arras

Hello!

Today, Patrick surprised no one more than himself by resurrecting the Making Light front page, archives, and CSS. He was deep in it for 6+ hours. Comments worked for a while, then stopped, which is not terribly surprising; but old ML is readable.

If you’re having trouble loading something you know is here/there, amend your link so that it ends in “/index.html”.

Pass it on. Hello hello hello.

  1. I’ll be darned.

  2. Woot!

    3:O)>

I have missed this place and its wonderful commentariat.

  3. Bug report:
https://www.nielsenhayden.com/makinglight/ brings up posts from 2023, not the newer ones.
Adding /index.html results in “page not found”.

    1. Feature request: the OPs are currently showing only the time posted. It would be helpful to also have the date, even if only as hovertext.

  4. Mary Aileen @ 5: I’m not sure there are any newer posts. Yet. But I’m hopeful!

  5. John A Arkansawyer #7: Aren’t we commenting on one right now?

    1. The date for this post shown on the homepage is October 31, 2022 (it’s like the third one down), so my guess is that they’re working on getting the comment structure back in place before officially opening for business with a new post.

      1. Aha! Thank you.

I wasn’t seeing dates for anything, just times.

        1. Comments seem to have threading, with indentation and tabbed numbering. I wonder if there’s a limit on how deep?

          1. ::Rubs knuckles & cackles evilly::

            Should we test it out?

          2. I don’t see a reply button on Jacque’s comment, so looks like 4 deep is the limit.

          3. Ah-hah! 5 levels appears to be the limit.

  6. Mary Aileen @ 8: I think this is from the before times.

  7. It has been a minute. Ben of 2018 was a pretty different creature.
