Week-by-Week Music

Some of the music I've been listening to this week

w/c 2025-01-12

Quite a lot of upbeat pop with very solid, well-defined rhythms this week - plus a couple of albums which ranged from pretty intense electronica through indie pop to interesting jazz.

The top song this week is either Blackout by NEEVE, or Petrichor by BILBAO and NEEVE. Blackout has a particular heaviness to it that I adore, especially with the repeated, reverb-y motifs that are sprinkled throughout the whole track. Petrichor is just so happy and sing-along-able while also maintaining a pleasing amount of substantial bassline added into the mix.

A slightly unexpected addition to the week was Utopian Frequencies by 65daysofstatic. The whole album is intense, programmed, and slightly crazy but I'm kinda here for it? I do not have the words, but it's fun, so who cares.

Other notable mentions from this week is the album Captured Spirits by Mammal Hands (great jazz) and the track Drunk on a Rhythm by Gothic Tropic (a throwback).
