After WW2 hostilities ceased, Silloth aerodrome was handed back to No:22 Maintenance Unit and the site was used largely for scrapping and storage. The aifield was used breifly for civil flights in the late 1950s and was closed in 1960. Today the remaining buildings are used for industrial units and an extremely popular sunday market, which takes advantage of the hard standing.

Sunday Market and Car Boot Sale

The Sunday Market at Silloth Airfield is operated by Border Marketing, a family business who aim to provide an enjoyable family day out. Over a hundred stalls regularly attend the Car Boot Sale on the airfield, making it one of the biggest in the region.  A wide variety of items are sold. Regular stallholders sell plants & flowers, bikes, homewares, antiques, toys and games.The market is open to public 10am-4pm, with traders arriving from 7am.
