Cursor Movement

The Cursor Movement options are quick ways to position and resize a window under the cursor by moving the cursor. The underlying window does not have to be frontmost.

To perform the Window Throw,

  1. Place your cursor over a window.
  2. Hold the configured modifiers or mouse button, or execute a configured trackpad gesture.
  3. Move your cursor to select a size/position.
  4. Release the modifiers, mouse button, or touch from the trackpad to snap the window into place.

The default configuration for the Window Throw is the modifier keys control+command.

When you initiate the Window Throw and a reticle is displayed, think of your screen being split into a pie centered at the reticle. When moving the cursor, the snap area is determined based on the sector that the cursor is in.

With the reticle displayed, if you move the cursor all the way to the center of another display, then the footprint for centering on that display will be shown.

  • Configure: Assign which window sizes and positions are associated with each sector.
  • Modifier Keys: Adjust the modifier keys for triggering the Window Throw.
    • (Remove the modifier keys to turn off the Window Throw)
  • Mouse: Select a mouse button to use for triggering the Window Throw. This is typically used with a mouse with physical buttons. Releasing the mouse button will execute the snap. You can either click in the mouse button recorder with your desired button, or enter it as a button number. For reference, button 3 is the middle mouse button.
  • Trackpad: Select a trackpad gesture. This gesture is performed by resting the specified number of touches on the trackpad (3,4, or 5), then removing all of those touches except for one, then moving that remaining touch. Although it sounds complex, it’s actually quite intuitive with a small bit of practice and it doesn’t conflict with existing trackpad gestures in macOS.

From the ellipsis button next to the Configure button, you can configure more details about the behavior and the style of the reticle.

  • Scrolling resizes the footprint window: When scrolling while the footprint is visible, the resulting window size will be adjusted.
  • Ignore windows without toolbars
  • Target Cursor: Change the size and color of the reticle, or change it to a ring image.
  • Safe Area: Adjust the distance away from the initial point that the Window Throw will be in effect. Slide this to the right to increase the Safe Area.
  • Min Dist to Appear: Prevent the reticle from displaying immediately upon triggering the Window Throw by moving this slider to the right. This is particularly useful when the Window Throw is set to the middle mouse button, as it allows the middle mouse button to click items under the cursor without the reticle immediately showing and absorbing the click.

While performing the Window Throw, move the cursor farther to trigger the Long Throw configurations.

  • Min Dist to Trigger: Adjust the distance away from the initial point that the Long Throw will be in effect. Slide it to the right to increase.

While holding the configured modifier keys, move the cursor and the underlying window will be moved or resized. Release the modifier keys to stop.
