Sookie Stackhouse is the narrator of Charlaine Harris’s Southern Vampire Mysteries. She works at Merlotte’s Bar and Grill in Bon Temps, Louisiana, and hears the thoughts of the people around her. Meeting the vampire Bill Compton introduces her to a supernatural world that is much larger than her town.
Vampire minds are silent to Sookie, which makes Bill’s presence unusual and draws her into his life. As the novels continue, she encounters vampires, shapeshifters, werewolves, and fae while trying to hold on to her work and her family connections. Start with Dead Until Dark; the main sequence follows one continuing story, and After Dead is a closing companion volume.
