Weeknote No. 26-17
🎤 This year’s Eurovision Song Contest is just a few weeks away, and I was delighted to learn that I’ll be able to watch for free on YouTube here in the US. I’m disappointed that some countries have opted out and that’s understandable, but I like the idea (even if that’s all it is) that music can unite us in ways nothing else can so I’m going to watch.
🎞️ As part of my ongoing project to get rid of “stuff” I bought a film scanner with the intention of digitizing several boxes of old negatives and slides. Unfortunately, the scanner I picked didn’t come with an adapter that accommodates APS film but I hastily crafted one out of poster board that seems to be working well enough. I even came across a picture of me, aged 22, with a college friend who is, sadly, no longer with us. 😢
🌿 We had some landscaping done and in the course of edging our flower beds they cut the fiber connection and we were suddenly without Internet! Fortunately, the folks at AT&T responded quickly and we were back up and running before the end of the day!
💧 The landscapers also replaced some shrubs that were either dead or very unhealthy. In what I hope was a productive burst of motivation, I went out and bought a couple of soaker hoses, snaked and staked them throughout the beds, and hooked them up to a timer. I hope now the shrubs will be well watered and happy.
🛢️ We finished watching season 1 of Landman and are already on to season 2. Yes, it’s a little over the top. Yes, the death rate is unbelievably high — although probably not by as much as one might think. Yes, the women in Tommy’s life are ridiculous. But the show is fun and gets the adrenaline going and I like that. It does for petroleum what Traffic did for drugs by explaining that it’s a lot more complicated than we’d like to believe.
🥘 The spousal unit does a lot of traveling and our eldest daughter is very busy with school, so I’ve been trying to put more homemade food on the table. This week I made some jambalaya and grilled chicken and even some banana bread. All have been well received.
