Central and Eastern Suffolk or Central and East Suffolk[1] will be a unitary authority area in the ceremonial county of Suffolk, England. It will be formed from the Mid Suffolk district less 29 parishes and East Suffolk less 25 parishes.[2] There will be elections in May 2027 and the new unitary will be created in 2028.[3] In 2021 the population of the area was 253,416.[4]
Formation
[edit]It is being formed as part of ongoing local government changes throughout England, in which all areas of the country that have separate county councils and district councils will see those replaced with single-tier, or unitary, local governance.[5]
The other new unitary authorities in Suffolk will be Western Suffolk and Ipswich and South Suffolk.[3] The alternative proposal for a single unitary council for Suffolk, which was put forward by Suffolk County Council, was not chosen.[6]

Governance
[edit]The local authority will be Central and Eastern Suffolk Council. The first councillors will be elected in the 2027 Central and Eastern Suffolk Council election.
