SMIRF,
acronym for "Strategiespielprogramm Mit Intelligent Rückkoppelnden Funktionen" (German for Strategic Game Program With Intelligent Recursing Facilities), a chess program by Reinhard Scharnagl with an own GUI running under Windows. Beside orthodox chess, SMIRF focused on chess variants on 8x8 and 10x8 boards, in particular Chess960, Gothic Chess, Capablanca Chess and Scharnagl's own invention, Capablanca random chess. A technique dubbed adaptive recursive feed-back implements a kind of closed loop control to shape the tree. SMIRF was distributed as shareware 1 and donationware.
