well well well .. like, do i need to even say much about this ? i think its pretty obvious what im trying to do here .. still chasing the rock spirit, i felt this was the next vibe to tackle ... sentimental, self-baring, maybe a little sexy or romantic, with a certain measure of vulnerability. wanted to try something in a triple meter, and i think the waltz vibe lends itself to this kind of thing. really still just testing limits ..
it's definitely the most 'composed' one so far. the drum and bass parts took me forever to get takes of. this is another limit im pushing on; like, one of the main exercises of this one was "inventing and remembering this long and complicated of a drum sequence." it took more raw time to record but i think it justified the expenditure. i could see recapturing this as the chorus or last-part of a longer piece. it was a rewarding thing to explore !
ok i have one more surprise for you:
mwahaha ! eagle eyed viewers may have noticed only two faders up in the first vid. thats cause i bounced drums-bass-guitar onto track 4, and 2 vocal takes onto track 3 - leaving 1 and 2 open again for horn parts! 7 tracks total on a 4 track machine ... this is about as much as i think it can handle before everything gets too muddy for my taste.
anyways yea, it is aloe lore that i rip at trumpet. im not even trying to brag, it just is the Instrument i Studied in my young adulthood, and my technical skill probly still exceeds that with which i play any of these rock instruments. i dont play very often since i quit this brass band i used to be in, but i keep one in the garage just because, and i heard that first chord coming in like that pretty consistently in my imagination as this hung out on the mental backburner between sessions, so i just slapped a whole part on there to try it.
im not sure how i feel about the overall effect of that yet ! enough so that i put this down here as bonus material for now. im glad i tried it out though, because this project is firmly in the thick of the "try everything out" phase right now. idunno what comes next, and thats kinda the point !
