I have a question, and I need you to be honest. No fluff. No “Oh, I meant to reply but got distracted” nonsense. Do you see me?
Not in a Sixth Sense “I see dead people” way. I mean, do you see the work I’m doing? Because I’ve been out here. Talking. Teaching. Posting. Fighting the good fight. Running workshops. Leading book clubs. Helping white women figure out how to actually speak up against racism instead of just awkwardly side-eyeing their problematic relatives at Thanksgiving. And yet… sometimes it feels like I’m yelling into the void while the void just double-taps my post and keeps scrolling.
I get it. Anti-racism? Heavy stuff. The Hood Feminism book club? It requires actual thinking. The election? A whole mess. But y’all, I also post things to help. I give you discussion questions, tools, ways to do the work without feeling like you’re drowning. And still, some of you are treating me like an unread email from Target. Unacceptable.
Now, I know there are real ones out there. You engage. You comment. You’re out here doing the work. And to you, I say: I see YOU. But for the rest of you, here’s a quick checklist to determine if you’ve been ghosting me:
• Have you nodded along to my posts but not actually interacted because “I don’t know what to say”? (Hint: A simple “Wow!” or “This made me think” works.)
• Have you seen my workshops, book clubs, or election resources and thought “I should do that” but then just… didn’t?
• Have you scrolled past my content thinking, “I’ll come back to this later,” and then never did?
If you answered yes to any of the above, don’t worry. Redemption is possible. All it takes is one comment. One share. One intentional engagement to say, I see you. Because listen, the internet’s a weird place. But if we’re here together, let’s actually be here together.
Now, drop a comment. Tell me if you see me. Or at least tell me you’re actually going to sign up for something this time. Either works.
